2017 Athletics Reflection

At athletics I managed to achieve my goals. I got through to the Zones competition for the long sprints. I did tn get first, I got second. I did well in the sprints. I am happy that I can go. I represented my house well because I tried my best at everything and I am competing in the house relay. I got points for my house by coming second in the sprints. The shot put was hard because you needed to throw it far and you need to throw it properly. I am most proud of coming second in the sprints. I used a growth mindset when in shotput they were heavier than I thought. So I just had to throw it and not think about how heavy it was.

My goal is to come first in the long distance run which is being held on Thursday. I want to be able to do this in Zones too.

Eels

Eels live in lakes. They are black and grey. They have very good speed and are known for sliding across land at night.

Why do eels go up and down stream?
When they are born they come down stream and then when they have lived for a long time they will try to get back up the river and have babies. Some don't make it back up stream. They get scratches from the rocks and the rock pools are too deep and they can not get back up. It is because the water is warmer than it is up the stream than down the stream. Down the bottom there is more food to eat than up the top of the stream, that is why they go up and down.

How did the early maoris catch the eels?
They caught them using big nets because the eels snake like body they would just slip out of their hands.

What did they use for bait to catch the eels?
Back in the day they didn’t have fresh fish like we do now. They only had little bites of dead fish. They were like a first class meal to the eels, so they came in and ate it straight away. That is how the Maoris caught them so fast.

How fast can eels swim?
They can swim up to 20 mph. They use this to get away from people, other fish and sometimes other eels. This makes them one of the fastest fish/snake. They can also swim for a long, long, long time.

Art Attack!

Koru Art!

 This is my art:

The goal was to create a artist inspired artwork.

Artist: Raewyn Harris

I learnt what colours looked good. Complementary colours work well together. Complementary colours are opposite each other on the colour wheel. I also learnt how to draw in chalk, this was quite hard.

My next step is to put more detail into my art next time.

The first step was to learn what colours went together. My colours were:
Red, Blue, Green, Purple and Yellow. Then we had to draw a draft and then drew it in chalk.
Then we had to do a good copy in chalk and then colour it in, mine looks very great.

I have learned how to split numbers into parts to help me solve problems.
Example:

Multiplication

6 x 43 = 258

6 x 40 = 240
6 x 3 = 18

240 x 18 = 258

                                                     My Moment in Time

At sun rise on a desolate beach a round object sits right in front of me.

I can see what looked like a boulder with BIG patches of smelly seaweed all around it.  Then the boulder slowly cracks open, slimy green ooze comes out smelling like chocolate. Next a monster leg appears out of a crack.

I can hear a cracking sound, the groaning of the monster trying to escape from the egg. There is also the sound of the wind blowing on my head and I can hear the crashing waves on the beach.

I can smell the salty air blowing on my head and the smelly seaweed sitting around egg.
The yummy smelling goo that smells like chocolate and the dead fish lying on the beach.

I can feel the wind blowing on my head and the slimy ooze under my feet. The slimy blue egg yolk all over me and water tacking the sand from under my feet and the other boulders crashing onto the beach.

I can taste the salty air I am breathing in and the egg yolk that tastes like chocolate and I think I have a fish in my mouth and the salty seaweed that was on the fish.

That was the end of my day beside the beach!

The End!

Dance Dance Dance!

I’ve enjoyed doing the Hip Hop because I learnt lots of
new moves, my favourite move was the strut.

I’ve been challenged by doing the Cha Cha, because it was hard to do the back to back.

I surprised myself when I did the toe tapping after the strut because I didn't think that I could do it. But I did.

I learnt how to do the Cha Cha because I don't do dance lessons, so it was the first time I had seen it.

I found that the Cha Cha was the harder than the Hip Hop dance because you had to do it with a partner and keep in time.

I would now like to the Hip Hop dance again, because it was so fun to do.
